Saeda was born on the twenty-first day of the four thousand and seventy second moon of the New Vailian calender, in the birthing caves beneath the city proper. By Vailian reckoning she is now two-hundred and ninety nine moons old – or twenty three years as the locals of Ta'Shalla Pylon would count it. As with many Vailian children she was given up for adoption immediately, and was raised as a ward of the state in one of the city's massive Academies.

Saeda is an attractive, dark-haired woman in her early twenties, who once served as leader to a squad of Vailian Black Wardens. She is a skilled at both magic and swordplay, and typically wears a suit of heavy platemail into battle. Although this suit is of outstanding manufacture, and seemingly well cared for, it also bears signs of heavy damage and may once have been even more impressive. Saeda is good friends with the hideously alien Byxintanderoh, having arrived at Ta'Shalla Pylon in its company.

Throughout her childhood, Saeda always struggled to fit in – and her sharp tongue and questioning mind

often landed her in trouble. When she came of age though, the mysterious Fourth Order (known to all as the Black Wardens) welcomed her with open arms and at last she felt as if she had a place in the world. There she trained hard to master the unique forms of magic and swordplay employed by the order, and eventually found herself Firstwarden of her squad.

The daily business of the order was to deal with the minor threats that sometimes cropped up outside the city bounds – strange beasts or spirits woken from nearby ruins, bandits in the deep caves stealing food, extremist cults spiriting away children or similar crises that for one reason or another fell outside the remit of the other Wardens. But ten moons ago all that changed with the arrival of Sanarenia's invading army – a seemingly never-ending stream of bizarre monsters and deranged cultists from some foreign plane, apparently determined to corrupt and destroy Vailius for no other reason than that they could.

While the other orders held the city walls and the labyrinthine caves below, the Black Wardens marched out en masse to seek the source of this assault. In time the way was found, a magical breach linking Vailius to a bleak and twisted plane filled with monstrous breeding pits and lit by a burning sky. There Saeda and her fellows took the battle home, assaulting the fortress at the heart of this cursed land.

As they infiltrated the stronghold Saeda became separated from her squad and stumbled upon a kind of prison or menagerie – filled with countless peculiar beasts, no doubt destined to be corrupted by the power of Chaos and added to the invader's army. Rather than leave them to their fate, Saeda freed them – leaving the defenders to deal with a horde of rampaging beasts as well as her own comrades. One of the beasts spoke to her however, telling her its name was Byxintanderoh, and thanked her most cordially for her assistance. Seeing that it was no mere animal, and that it was injured, she told it to return the way she had come so it might escape the fighting without further harm.

Eventually Saeda found her way to the very heart of the fortress, and there found the sorceress who had single-handedly begun this war, a woman who styled herself Sanarenia. They fought with both magic and steel, and Saeda emerged victorious – though only just – and as she collapsed into unconsciousness she felt the ground beneath her begin to shake.

Her next memory was waking in a strange land, the hideous, betentacled Byxintanderoh tending to her wounds. He told her that he had come back to look for her, but that the fortress and everything around it had somehow collapsed into a sea of Chaos – and that after a time they had drifted free of that nightmare realm and found themselves here, in an unknown forest.

For a moon or more they wandered idly together, finding themselves occasionally flung from one strange world to another – seemingly at random. As they travelled they learnt more about one another – and Saeda taught Byxintanderoh the Vailian tongue, greatly superior to the primitive trade dialect they had been forced to rely on before. Finally they arrived at something akin to civilisation, a strange kind of shanty town inside a great artefact known as Ta'Shalla Pylon.

Here they encountered other travellers like themselves, brought here by strange forces from one plane or another, and learned that Ta'Shalla did not lie within Reshomme at all – but instead floated within the Wild Sea.

Although their arrival at the Pylon gave them a much-needed chance to rest, Saeda found herself increasingly haunted by strange dreams and visions – flashbacks of her recent battles, mixed with ominous portents and glimpses of alien worlds. As time has passed these visions have grown longer and more frequent, and Saeda has grown fearful that some greater battle yet lies ahead.
