This highly useful form of Metamagic extends the caster's senses partially onto the Astral Plane, allowing him to sense Spells, Spirits, Astral Beacons and Astral Tags just as easily as physical objects. The exact sensory properties of any given Astral phenomena are somewhat arbitrary – since of course a spell does not actually have an appearance, sound or smell as such – in general Astral Sense simply assigns sensations in a fashion that (hopefully) make sense to the casting mage.

Since the presence of magic is generally quite obvious to someone using Astral Sight, the spell provides an effective bonus to General Knowledge: Mage Lore checks to identify spells and Awareness checks to detect or see through illusions, or to spot anyone who is using magic to aid their attempts at Stealth.
