Rather than causing any actual damage, the sinister touch of this spell instead exposes its victim directly to the Elemental Plane of Darkness. Although this contact endures only for a split-second, its shocking effect can often be sufficient to cause immediate unconsciousness or death. Once the spell is cast, any person touched by its caster, or who touches him, receives the listed Shock – after which the spell ends.
