As all the Mantonian civil service, military, and legislature is composed of members of the various orders of Warrior Adventurers, the rank system is obviously of vital importance.

The ranks within each order are:

The relative rank of persons of the same rank in different Orders is related to the relative prestige of the Orders. A Knight Adventurer of a Noble Order is of lower rank than a Knight Adventurer from a Royal Order; but, all other things being equal, a Knight of the Lion outranks a Knight of the Dragon because the Dragon have lower prestige than the Lion.

In cases of closely-related orders, such as the Moon and the Dragon, the distinction is further blurred. A Sorceress of the Moon may well be considered to outrank a Knight Captain of the Dragon depending on individual position within the order.

In addition to the intra-order ranks, one member of each order will represent the Order on the relevant Council, and there are ranks such as Lord General which also attract prestige; the current highest ranking non-Crown person in Mantoni is Lord General Alvarez of the Royal Order of the Scorpion.

The Royal Order of the Crown outranks all other Royal Orders, as it is composed of the royal family.

Footnotes

1. The Royal Order of the Dragon does not offer magical training, so its highest rank is called Knight Captain rather than Sorcerer. The Dragon is the only Royal Order to adopt this practice.
