War of Desolation

A huge magical conflict between Magnas and Nelonia which occurred over an extended period during the Seventh Age. The war's eventual outcome was mutual devastation, with both nations crippled and effectively destroyed.

Most of the people of Magnas were forced to abandon their physical bodies and take spiritual shelter within the enchanted fortress of Storr Vo Magnas. Those who did not flee the country or choose to dwell within the fortress were slaughtered either by the final Nelonian attack or by the hordes of demons that followed.

Nelonia meanwhile was physically shattered, with much of it sinking into the sea or being burnt to ashes. Only a fraction of the country's cities and people survived and only then thanks to the fact that the Sulaim nation lay buried underground. Even so flooding, starvation, disease and civil war subsequently took huge tolls of their own.

Before the war Magnas, though tiny, was known as a city-state of enormous power and influence - while afterwards it was nothing but a demon-haunted jungle filled with forgotten ruins. Nelonia, once a huge, populous nation home to almost the entire Sulaim race was reduced to a handful of struggling cities hidden beneath the newly-formed Darkwind Isles.
