True to its name, Deflection applies just enough force at just the right angle to deflect one or more projectiles in flight, thus causing them to miss its caster. Deflection operates as a Parry but does not suffer from the normal penalty for parrying ranged attacks. As with other Reflex spells, its effectiveness as a defence is based on its Casting Total.

Only physical projectiles (such as arrows, bullets or thrown weapons), or Mobile or Projectile spells with the Physical attribute, can be deflected by the spell – and even then only if the spell's Deflection Strength equals or exceeds the combined Weight of the projectiles. Fast Projectiles are harder to deflect and count as having double their normal Weight. If the projectiles do not list their Weight then assume it to be 1 each.

If Deflection is strong enough to deflect some, but not all, of the projectiles that would otherwise hit its caster then it deflects as many as it can but the remaining projectiles strike him as normal.
