Ability Type: Spell, Difficulty 16
Provided By: Simple Pyrokinetics

Spell Type: Elemental, Fire
Form: Aura
Function: Utility
Power Cost: 1 to 8, Variable
Duration: Maintainable

Using this form of magic, a mage learned in Pyrokinetics can manipulate non-magical fires nearby, controlling both the fierceness of the blaze and how it spreads. The maximum possible change in intensity and the speed of spread are measured as a percentage of the natural values for the fire, up to 100% in the spell's primary area, and up to 50% in the larger, secondary area. Thus fires within the primary area may be completely extinguished or doubled in intensity, while those further from the mage can at most be halved or increased by half again. Within the spell's primary area it is also possible for the mage to start new fires, though these will be little more than a torch-flame at first.

In addition the mage may manipulate the fire in a variable fashion – making some areas burn more while other burn less, or encouraging the fire to spread in one direction while preventing it from spreading in another. Even finer manipulation is also possible within the spell's primary area, causing elaborate, moving shapes to appear in the flame - with the images formed limited only by the extent of the fire and the mage's imagination.

Through a combination of directing these fire-forms and controlling the strength and direction of the blaze the mage can even cause the fire to effectively strike out at given targets – unleashing its full fury on them while leaving others unscathed. Attacks of this kind will require further Spellcasting checks in order to control them and will count as an action. As normal, if multiple attacks are made in a single round all will be penalised by a cumulative Multiple Action penalty.

Only fire that is within the spell's area of effect can be controlled, and if the spell ends or the caster moves so that an area is no longer affected then the fire there will swiftly return to its natural state (unless it has been completely extinguished).
