Tarrastus

A fortress-town built where the Karain meets the great Erus River on the Lahrus Plains of Varys. Tarrastus was once a thriving trading city, but was destroyed in the Seventh Age and subsequently rebuilt as a fortress by settlers from Vahkastus.

The fortress was originally conceived as way to ensure the safety of the many small Vahkastian settlements on the plains from threats originating from the south - most notably Chaos beings from the Heart of Chaos or raiders from the bandit city of Kahrad'Akhan. Over time however it grew into a thriving community in its own right and eventually seceded from Vahkastian rule, leading to considerable tension between the two settlements and occasional outbreaks of violence over the allegiance of various smaller towns.
