Sword of Glass

The Sword of Glass is an enchanted greatsword, seemingly forged from a single piece of highly reflective silver-brown crystal. The sword's many facets often show images of strange people, objects and places and it is said that the blade speaks to the one who wields it. Since well before the founding of Vala Mantyn, the sword has been handed down through the Mantynar family line and is often thought of as a kind of badge-of-office for the First Captain of Vala Mantyn.

Legend says that only a true Mantynar may wield the sword, and that it cannot be parted from its wielder either in life or death. Since the blade has been handed down for many generations, some scholars of the arcane take this to mean that the blade absorbs the spirit of its wielder when they die, thus allowing the current head of the family to carry the spirits of their ancestors with them at all times.

Although said to be powerful in battle, the Sword of Glass also has a reputation for causing its wielder to become involved in strange and often horrific events. Perhaps because of this, it is sometimes said to be a curse laid on the Mantynar family for having ventured into forbidden and enchanted lands - or perhaps even the Netherworld.

The sword's current wielder is Laeanna Mantynar.
