A Stun Save is required whenever a character's total Injury Penalty (I.e. the total of their Wound Penalty and the penalty caused by their current level of Shock) reaches -1 or worse. Stun Saves are a Willpower Check with target of 11. On a fail, the character falls unconscious.
If a character passes a Stun Save then they are not required to make another one unless they receive further injury or Shock. However, after failing a Stun Save and being rendered unconscious the injured character may attempt a fresh Stun Save one a turn until they succeed and thus recover.
Unfortunately making this effort to return to conciousness can put a great deal of strain on an injured character, and if they are suffering from a total Injury Penalty of -4 or worse then any time they choose to make a fresh Stun Save they must also make a Death Save.
