Stun damage is considerably less lethal than normal damage, and although it causes Shock and Damage Penalties as normal any Trauma Check provoked by receiving Stun Damage cannot result in Death - with that outcome commuted automatically to Knocked Unconscious instead.

Shock and Damage Penalties caused by Stun Damage are fully cumulative with those provoked by normal damage however, and taking additional non-Stun damage can still lead to the character's death.
