Laeanna Mantynar is a young Jhantyn woman, from the Crescent State of Vala Mantyn. She is the current head of the Mantynar family, and thus also the First Captain of Vala Mantyn and bearer of the Sword of Glass.

Laeanna has a reputation for being flighty and troubled, and often the victim of strange coincidences and twists of fate. These are not unexpected characteristics in a Mantynar heir, however, and she is generally popular with the people of Mantynae despite (or perhaps even because of) her tendency to wander far and wide - rather than spending much time on her island home.

Like many Jhantyn from the Crescent States, Laeanna has caramel skin - though her golden-brown hair and eyes are evidence of the considerable Lehenyar influence on the Mantynar line. She is tall and well-built for a woman, and typically wears the relatively light form of mail-and-plate common to most of the Crescent States.
