The First Captain of Vala Mantyn is the nominal leader of the Captains of Mantynae, the council of merchant families that rules the Crescent State of Vala Mantyn. The First Captain is almost always the current head of Mantynar family - and thus also the bearer of the Sword of Glass.
The present First Captain is Laeanna Mantynar, a young woman with a reputation for being rather flighty and peculiar - though also an accomplished adventurer - who is currently on an extended sabbatical, travelling the Kelrithine Federation and beyond.
