Restless Night allows subtle control over darkness within a moderate area, allowing its caster to dim lights, move and shape existing shadows and even craft shadows of entirely fictitious objects or creatures in order to scare or confuse enemies – or delight small children.

Simple effects, such as a blanket dimming of lights and deepening of shadows (I.e. Applying a general [[Darkness Penalty]] to the area) can be carried out throughout the spell's range without requiring concentration, and the same is true for maintaining any more subtle changes made – so long as they are not required to further change or move. Making subtle adjustments in order to affect particular light sources or to create, alter or animate particular shadows requires line of sight, and controlling complicated illusions (such as a detailed, animated shadow) requires the caster to forgo other all other actions (except movement) whilst directing the spell.
