This spell scours the local [[Astral Plane]] for the distinctive pattern of [[Astral Beacon]]s – enabling its caster to sense any and all Gate and [[Teleportation]] phenomena nearby. Gate Scan can distinguish easily between permanent [[Gate Site]]s and more temporary Astral Beacons and can also sense whether or not they are in use – and what form of Gate of Teleportation magic they are being used for, although Gate Scan's caster may or may not recognise the exact spell in use. As well as providing general information on these spells and sites, Gate Scan provides its caster with their distance and direction.<br />
