The Army of Darkness is the name used to describe the huge army, consisting mostly of [[Sulaim]], that fought for [[Sulansis]] and [[Nelonia]] during the [[Wars of Strife]]. Reinforced by the terrible power of the [[Sulinast]] and allied with the great [[Orcs|Orc]] armies that had been gathering secretly in the northlands since the end of the [[Dawn Wars]], the Army of Darkness was easily the most powerful military force on [[Amethgare]] for much of the [[Seventh Age]].

After the fall of [[Danton]] however, the alliance between Orcs and Sulaim began to dissolve and the army found its resources stretched increasingly thin as it continued its genocidal war against the remaining [[Amethyar]] lands in the South-East and South-West. Although it succeeded in ravaging much of [[Thalas]] and the [[New Kingdoms]], the Amethyar refused to admit defeat and the great war ground to halt, becoming a series of bloody crusades broken by period of frantic rebuilding as both sides sought to claim and hold northern Thalas and the area that came to be known as the [[Fortress States]].

The final straw was the appearance of the [[Gems of Magnas]], the shards of the [[Solinast]] reforged into magical weapons that could counter the power of [[Sulinast]] to some degree and allow the Amethyar to fight on equal terms. With this change in the balance of power, first evident at the [[Battle of the Stars]] at [[Great Heldmar|Heldmar]], Sulansis's forces found themselves thrown back time and again and with the Orcs now actively harassing their supply lines north they were forced to fight their way home - and were effectively annihilated in the attempt.
