Rather than relying on magical Power to reinforce the delicate astral structure of your spells, your magical expertise allows you to keep them in tact purely through concentration and force of will. In practice this means that you can withdraw all Power from a Variable-type spell and yet still maintain it – although it will become completely inactive until it receives sufficient energy to meet its Minimum Power Cost. Spells held in standby form have no physical presence, but can still be affected by other magic – meaning that it is possible to counter, analyse or otherwise interact with them as normal. Standby spells use Spell Slots as normal.
