This spell creates an enduring bond between an object touched by the caster and a nearby Spirit, tying the spirit to this plane and preventing it from being drawn away to the Netherworld and making it difficult for the spirit to travel far from the object that it is bonded to. If cast by a non-manifest spirit, Spirit Bond can be used to bind the caster itself to an object.

While the spell is maintained the spirit has no need for the Persistence Checks normally required for a spirit to remain close to the physical world, and indeed can only break free of the bond by making a Willpower check equal to or greater than the spell's Bond Escape Difficulty. If the spirit ever succeeds in this check then the spell ends at once, however the spirit may only attempt to escape periodically – once a day for the first week, then one a week for the remainder of the first month and finally once a month from then onwards.

When the spell does end the bond between the spirit and the item continues but the spirit is no longer forced to remain and must make Persistence Checks as normal if it desires to do so. Regardless of how long the spell remained in force, the spirit is considered newly bonded to the item when the spell ends and begins by making daily Persistence Checks, however the Bond Strength established by the spell remains.
