A basic form of defence against Telepathy and other mind-reading or mind-affecting magic, Guarded Thoughts blocks any spell that attempts to read or effect its caster's thoughts or emotions, or enter into mental communication with him. Such spells can only affect a protected mage if both their Power and Casting Total exceed those of Guarded Thoughts. Guarded Thoughts does not actually counter spells that it blocks, so they can be cast and maintained as normal, but they will simply not function at all with respect to the protected mage.
