Royal Order of the Viper

One of the twelve Mantonian Royal Orders, the Viper are regarded with some suspicion by orders such as the Dragon and the Lion. Nevertheless, the Alas-worshipping Viper do sterling service for Mantoni, mainly in the areas of assassination, spying and sundry nefarious activities.

Unlike the other Royal Orders, the Viper were originally a Karantian army. During the Seventh Age they were sent to observe the battle for Heldmar (later known as the Battle of the Stars) with orders to kill any survivors once the battle was over. Instead the Viper betrayed their masters and decided to aid the beleaguered defenders - turning the tide of the battle against the Army of Darkness.

Despite (or, possibly, because of) their shared patron deity, the Viper do not get along with the Royal Order of the Scorpion.

The treacherous Noble Order of the Ebony Wing owed allegiance to the Viper, but their brand of betrayal is believed stamped out with the multiple deaths of Amon Valir.
