By performing this ritual, an acolyte can bind himself to a chosen patron – normally either a god or angel. This does not grant any particular power or responsibility in and of itself, but rather it opens up the possibility of various divine rituals or magics.

The degree of initial favour a devotee finds with his chosen patron depends on his conduct up to that point, and the manner in which he goes about earning his patron's approval. Simply performing Devotion on its own is worth little, but a devotee who seeks approval from the local temple of his chosen patron and who chooses to live his life in keeping with his patron's values will find much greater favour.

Carrying out the ritual takes about an hour and provides up to 50% Divine Favour with the chosen patron – at the cost of losing any favour held with any other being.
